Harley trike with Super Shox

Trike / Freewheeler / RG3

Harley trikes ask a lot of the rear suspension – three wheels, more weight, and a lot of riders who live on imperfect roads. Stock shocks often feel harsh over bumps and leave the chassis feeling busy side-to-side. Super Shox Premier Series trike shocks are built specifically for Tri-Glide, Freewheeler, and RG3 platforms so you get more travel, sensible sag, and a planted ride.

Fitment: 2009-2025 FLRT / FLHTCUTG / RG3

Why trike riders switch to Super Shox

  • Easy-to-set, numbered preload eliminates time-consuming and difficult sag measurement.
  • Smoother take-up of small bumps and big hits
  • Improved stability and less “toss” over uneven pavement
  • Easier low-speed steering effort for many riders
  • Better muffler clearance on inclines with the longer 14.5″ setup
  • Weight-specific spring rates (not a generic trike spring)
  • USA-made, hand-assembled, dyno-tested, serial-numbered
  • 30-day money-back guarantee and lifetime warranty

13.5″ vs 14.5″ – which should you buy?

Most riders should choose 14.5″. Extra length and travel beat a short shock plus a lift kit for real-world comfort and control.

Length 2009-2018 lift (approx.) 2019-2025 lift (approx.) Price
13.5″ ~1/2″ ~ stock height $745
14.5″ (recommended) ~1 1/2″ ~1/2″ $745

On 2019 and newer coil-over trikes, 14.5″ Super Shox may show less static lift than on earlier bikes, but they still deliver clearly better compliance than stock shocks that don’t sag enough to work.

Important: 14.5″ shocks mount to the stock mounts. Do not combine them with a lift kit. The 14.5″ setup replaces the need for a lift kit and gives you more usable travel.

Exhaust extension pipe (2017 to 2025)

On 2017+ models, the longer catalytic converter limits extension if you run a shock longer than 13.5″. Super Shox extension pipe SR1-1127-1 ($175) restores clearance to the swingarm so 14.5″ shocks can travel the way they were designed to. If you’re on 2017+ and want 14.5″, plan on the pipe unless you have an aftermarket head pipe to muffler.

Install note

Trike Super Shox are typically mounted inverted so you can reach the preload collar. Preload changes are easier with the rear lightened (lifted). Once you find the sweet spot for your usual solo / two-up mix, most riders leave it there.

FAQ

Is 14.5″ better than a lift kit?
For ride quality, yes – more travel at a sensible height beats a short shock on a lift kit. Mount 14.5″ to stock points only.

Do I need the extension pipe?
For 14.5″ on 2017+ with stock head pipe / cat, yes (SR1-1127-1).

Can one preload setting cover solo and two-up?
Often yes, within a sensible weight band. We’ll help you pick the rate so you’re not constantly wrenching.
